Cezanne Quotes

All of these Cezanne quotes posted below were done on my writing desk on top of a piece of white posterboard - this explains why there aren't any other objects in the drawing and why the light source (desk lamp) shows the shadows projected from the objects reflected off of the poster board.

Cezanne Quote: "Shadow is a color as light is, but less brilliant; light and shadow are only the relation of two tones."

I chose to draw these collection of items to show how different subjects portray different shadows and values against plain backgrounds.  I tried to choose items of different textures varying from glass, plastic, cloth, and metal.

Cezanne quote: "An art which isn't based on feeling isn't an art at all..."

I chose to draw these fruit (that were on the precipice of being too ripe) because I was actually quite hungry at the time.  I wanted to capture the succulent and juicy nature of the fruit in my sketch as I felt at that very moment.

Cezanne quote: "If you see a red tree, paint it bright red."

I chose to draw a typical, dirty sneaker in my closet to express this quote by Cezanne.  I think it's the perfect object because I'm creating a vibrant work of art from your atypical, beautiful, and desired subject of art.
